93 Points: 2017 Decero Mini Ediciones Petit Verdot, Remolinos Vineyard
Best of Argentina Report 2020, Tim Atkin MW – May 10, 2020
“A variety that works very well here,” is Tommy Hughes’ correct assessment of Petit Verdot’s performance in the Remolinos Vineyard. Sturdy enough to stand up to 50% new oak, this is a spicy, floral, herbal red with the textbook tannins of the variety, refreshing acidity and the purity and balance that are features of the Decero wines. 2022-27. 93 Points

Sweet and luscious. Really very gorgeous texture. Floral and fresh. The Bordelais would surely kill to have this plumpness and completeness from their Petit Verdot. Long. 17/20

GOLD LIST: 2013 Decero Mini Ediciones Petit Verdot
Sommelier Wine Awards – May 17, 2018
This Petit Verdot took home a well-deserved Gold medal with what Gymkhana’s Valentin Radosav described as ‘a nose of blackberry and gamey notes, leading to a charcoal-granitic minerality on the palate with ripe, dark fruit at the core, along with espresso and chocolate notes, and well-balanced tannins’, with team leader Annette Scarfe MW highlighting its ‘more rustic style, packed with dark bramble fruit, fresh acidity and big but ripe tannins’.

Luis Gutierrez, The Wine Advocate – August 28, 2015
Decero produce some of the best Petit Verdot in Argentina, and they are capable of convincing the skeptics with examples like the 2012 Remolinos Vineyard Mini Ediciones Petit Verdot that does not show the aggressiveness often associated with the grape. There is perfect ripeness here, no excess and no charred or toasted sensations either from the grape or the élevage (which is always pristine at this address). Polished tannins, very good balance and a sleek palate, the house signature is also applied to this finicky Bordeaux grape. 92 Points

Pure Petit Verdot is hard to come by and this is an excellent example with hints of dried fruits and spice. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Drink now.

Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar – March 13, 2013
Saturated medium ruby. Very black, youthfully medicinal aromas of cassis, bitter chocolate, licorice and menthol lifted by a violet note. Densely packed, fresh and structured, with solid saline extract to the flavors of blackberry, cassis and minerals. Boasts a sophisticated texture and an enticing sugar/acid balance. This serious dry wine finishes with substantial fine-grained tannins.

Fragrant and not too heavy. Really rather delicate and savoury and grown up. This would make a superb varietal lesson. The merest hint of Petit Verdot greenness. Lovely stuff! Sophisticated. 14%. 17 Pts. Drink 2013-2018.

Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate – November 1, 2012
The 2010 Mini Ediciones Petit Verdot is from Agrelo in Mendoza and is aged for 16 months in barriques (50% new). It has a tightly wound bouquet of blackberry and bilberry fruit with hints of wild hedgerow and graphite that all take time to unfurl. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition: sappy dark cherry and blueberry fruit on the entry and a sweet, ripe blueberry-tinged finish that belies the fine structure. This is a very commendable single varietal. Drink 2013-2019.

Medium ruby-red. Cassis, black pepper, bitter chocolate and a hint of violet on the nose, complemented by enticing oak tones. Suave, dense and fine-grained, with good peppery energy and violet lift to the black fruit flavors. A bit denser and darker than the 2009 cabernet sauvignon reviewed in Issue 154. Perhaps a bit youthfully monolithic in its texture but the wine’s ripe, dusty tannins and good finishing snap and lift suggest it will reward aging. Nuanced, complete petit verdot.

Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate – January 6, 2012
‘2008 Decero Mini Ediciones Petit Verdot spent 16 months in 50% new French oak. Sexy aromas of sandalwood, exotic spices, incense, licorice, espresso, and assorted black fruits lead to a dense, rich, structured offering mandating 4-5 years of additional cellaring. This powerful offering will be at its best from 2016 to 2023+.’
