Decero Cabernet Sauvignon

Agrelo is recognised for red varieties and whilst it has been acknowledged for its high quality Malbec it has also become known as the source of some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon emanating from Argentina. Our three Decero Signature wines are single varietal wines: Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. These wines are testify to their unique site of origin, our Remolinos Vineyard.

Throughout the vineyard and the winemaking our “amano” approach is just as evident here as on each of other wines. Four steps of selection including double sorting tables, small parcel winemaking, basket pressing and a meticulous attention to quality ensure that after 14 months maturation in French oak these are wines of susbtance but each, above all, shows the hallmark elegance of our Remolinos Vineyard.

2017 Vintage

On the lead up to vintage 2017, Mendoza experienced a moderate and dry winter with temperatures slightly above average. During the following cold, dry spring, the later development of Cabernet Sauvignon meant it was unaffected by the early spring frost. The quality of 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon shows in expressive fruit balanced by bright acidity and lifted fresh aromas.

2017 Decero Cabernet Sauvignon, Remolinos Vineyard

2017 Decero Cabernet Sauvignon has classic notes of cassis and some cherry and red fruit flavours with fresh acidity. The wine has supple integrated tannins, from 14 months in french oak barrels. An elegant style of Cabernet Sauvignon.

2016 Vintage

The forecast of the 2016 vintage was set to be similar to the cool, rainy 2015 vintage. With this in mind, we plucked leaves not only on the east facing but also on the west facing canopy to ensure good airflow in face of cool rains. In reality, the intermittent rains stopped in January and the dry February and March saw phenolic ripeness achieved. Due to the dry final 6 weeks of maturation and the leaf plucking, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon shows darker fruit flavours and slightly spicier note profile balanced by a long finish and good acidity.

2016 Decero Cabernet Sauvignon, Remolinos Vineyard

2016 Decero Cabernet Sauvignon has classic notes of cassis, some dark fruit flavours with complementary spice notes and a long finish with supple integrated tannins, from 14 months in french oak barrels.

2015 Vintage

The 2015 vintage was characterized by a warm spring and early summer which brought forward harvesting by 10-15 days. There were frequent summer rains and the final crop of the vineyard was small in quantity but of high quality. These early picked grapes gave us higher acidity than usual and slightly lower concentration, making the 2015 vintage wine slightly more elegant than its predecessor.

2014 Vintage

The 2014 vintage was one of the coolest in our history. After the temperatures in December and January being above average, the temperatures dropped dramatically in February which, combined with summer rain, delayed grape maturation by nearly one week, as autumn progressed the temperatures remained below average and very cool. These climatic conditions resulted in an elegant style of Cabernet Sauvignon with good acidity.

2014 Decero Cabernet Sauvignon, Remolinos Vineyard

2014 Decero Cabernet Sauvignon has classic notes of cassis, cedar and graphite bound together by structural tannins enhanced by 14 months in french oak barrels. An elegant, well structured classic style of Cabernet Sauvignon.

2013 Vintage

2013 was cooler than other recent vintages, with cool temperatures throughout the summer and fall plummeting particularly at night time . As such we decided to pick our fruit in Remolinos Vineyard between 5-7 days later than the average year in order to achieve full phenolic ripeness. These cool conditions also lead to more pronounced acidity and aromatics balancing the seductive tannins.

2013 Decero Cabernet Sauvignon, Remolinos Vineyard

2013 Decero Cabernet Sauvignon has a flavor profile of both cassis and black fruits, a fine backbone of acidity leading it more towards elegance than opulence. Seductive tannins, more silky than those of the 2010 and 2012 vintages, provide the perfect balance and structure for this wine. Great food matching and cellaring potential.

2012 Vintage

2012 was an excellent vintage in Agrelo, again marked by low yields, mostly due to the influence of Zonda wind during flowering time in November. In Agrelo there was higher rainfall during the growing season and lower rainfall during maturation which provided excellent vintage conditions. The average temperature were slightly higher in the summer but lower in April this enabled us to pick the Cabernet for the first time over two weeks to achieve optimal maturity of each parcel.

2012 Decero Cabernet Sauvignon, Remolinos Vineyard

2012 Decero Cabernet Sauvignon has the intensive cassis aromas and black fruit flavors, with some spicy notes adding complexity. Balanced acidity and firm velvety tannins complete this wine reminiscent in structure of the excellent 2010 vintage. Great food matching and cellaring potential.

2011 Vintage

The most influential factor of the 2011 vintage was a cold Spring and a frost in early November which resulted in lower than average yields. The cooler weather continued throughout the summer season causing the maturation and harvest to take place beginning of May around one week later than usual. The coolness of the 2011 vintage left its mark on the elegance and medium bodied style of our Cabernet Sauvignon.

Agrelo is recognized as one of the best sub-appellations for Cabernet Sauvignon in Argentina and the signature of our Remolinos Vineyard shows the potential of the region. Lifted cherry and and cases notes combine in an elegant style with integrated tannins adding complexity following 14 months in French oak barrels.
